Deepings Rugby Club host a fun day next weekend to honour ex-chairman Sean Turner
An ex-chairman who passed away during the Covid-19 lockdowns will be honoured at Deepings Rugby Club’s upcoming President’s Day.
Sean Turner has been described as a “special person” by the club, and the September 4 event will pay tribute to him.
Sean was an ex-RAF member, and so one of its rugby sides will fittingly attend a match.
Clare Price, club sponsorship and fund-raiser, says it should be a fun day for the whole community.
“We’re hoping it’s going to start off with the under-11s kids game. Then we’re going to have the ladies’ team and the first team playing.
“There will be a tombola, a cake stall and a raffle. We’re trying to make it a family day as well.
“Everyone is welcome, you don’t have to be a member. You can just show up on the day, and there are no tickets.”
Clare says everyone is excited for the big Saturday and that a lot of hard work is taking place.
“There’s a lot of planning going on,” she said.
“It’s good fun. It’ll be good, so we’re just hoping for good weather.”
The first game is scheduled to kick off at 11am on the Saturday, and the main veteran’s game will be at 4pm.
Teams attending will include Deeping Devils and Boston Ladies, and the RAF side will face off against a Deepings Presidents XV.
