The Nickolsky Ensemble perform in Whaplode
The talented voices of a cappella quartet The Nikolsky Ensemble will fill the historic building of St Mary’s Church in Whaplode on Sunday (September 29) at 7pm.
The ensemble of male singers are from Saratov in Russia and have performed in London, Bergen in Norway, Tallinn in Estonia and other places in Norway, England, Wales and Estonia.
They sing entirely a cappella, explaining: “Our voices are the only instruments we use.”
The performance is for the church’s harvest festival and comprises two parts - Russian liturgical music, as well as a selection of renowned Russian folk songs.
Although sung in Russian, they explain that language is not a barrier to enjoying the beautiful and moving melodies.
The second part is devoted to Russian folk songs that display a range of feelings, rhythms and tunes.
