Inside the South Holland Centre, Spalding
We’ve recently highlighted some activities for families and young people at the South Holland Centre, so here’s some entertainment that celebrates the pleasures and pitfalls of the passing years.
New Perspective Theatre’s Unforgettable on Wednesday, June 3, and Virginia Ironside’s Growing Old Disgracefully on Thursday, June 11.
Performed by leading East Midlands touring theatre company New Perspectives, Unforgettable is a warm-hearted and funny play which focuses on the relationship between a sister and brother, Rosie and Jed, who refuse to let age slow them down or stifle their dreams. These two seniors struggle to take life seriously whilst juggling the demands of aged parents and their own ‘youthful’ desires.
According to theatre industry magazine The Stage ‘New Perspectives have an unerring instinct for what will strike a chord with rural audiences’ and this play is sure to resonate, either directly or indirectly, portraying a realistic and recognisable but ultimately lighter side of life.
Then well-known agony aunt and author Virginia Ironside will be paying us a visit with her one-woman show Growing Old Disgracefully, to champion the rights of the over 60s in her own unique and mischievous style – cheekily taking audiences on a whirlwind dissection of life in the third age covering the delights of free drugs, grandchildren, sex (or lack of!) and the art of breaking wind.
Ably guided by director Nigel Planer, Virginia’s witty and uncensored account of her golden years will leave older people howling with painful recognition and the young ones desperate to grow up and join the fun.
To mark these two distinguished events we’re offering a ‘Time of Your Life’ £15 discounted ticket for anyone booking for both shows at the same time. Anyone wishing to take advantage of this offer should call 01775 764777.
