Students with the gift of the gab took centre stage at Peele Community College, Long Sutton, which staged a showcase of drama, poetry and rap.
About 30 students entered Peele Poetry Slam where performances from drama to stand-up comedy were assessed by a panel of judges.
The competition’s rules saw each student perform their own work for three minutes without the use of a script, props or costumes, with contestants demonstrating the most humour and originality winning the judges over.
Winners Rebecca Edwards and Nicole-Dench-Layton said: “We really didn’t expect it and the experience was absolutely amazing.”
Dean Watts was second, student dup Gerogia Forrest-Bowers and Zoe Franklin were third and the college has promised to stage another event next year.
