Welland Yacht Club host their open day this weekend in bid to get more people out on the water
Learner sailers will be able to take to the water at an open day over the weekend.
Welland Yacht Club will be giving people the opportunity to have a go at sailing between 11am and 4pm on Sunday.
The club is hoping to attract new members by taking people of all ages out onto the water.
Welland Yacht Club has been running for more than 60 years - and also benefits from having a club house with an active social scene.
Club member Mark Holland said: “We are hoping to encourage people to give it a try.
“Our members will be in control of the boat but if the weather is fairly light they can steer the boat themselves if they wish.
“It is quite a tranquil sport and it is a really pretty part of the river.
“Come along and give it a go as you might enjoy it. The sport can be as cheap or expensive as you wish to make it.”
The club has a boat which members are allowed to use on a first come, first served basis.
People who are planning to go along to the open day are encouraged to wear old clothes and footwear which they don’t mind getting wet.
The club will also be running powerboat and sailing courses later in September.
It is also hoping to restart its junior club.
