Spalding Elf Trail will kick off in December courtesy of South Holland District Council's communities team

It’s nearly time to look out your detective hats - a number of cheeky elves are hiding around the town centre!

If you are able to find the names of Santa’s little helpers around Spalding, you will be entered into a prize draw which could see you win some brilliant shop vouchers during the festive season.

The event has been put together by South Holland District Council’s communities team, and it will launch on the same day as their big Christmas celebration.

A number of Spalding’s shops are taking part, and you can pick up an entry booklet from any of them.

The Elf Trail kicks off on December 3 and doesn’t conclude until December 24, meaning you have most of the month to find as many clues as you can.

Alison White, community officer for the district council, can’t wait for it to start.

“Its one of the highlights of our year. We love doing it,” she said.

“It starts on the same day as the Christmas Celebration, so we will be in the town centre and well have lots of booklets to hand out to people.

“We’re hoping that when they come to that event, they can also go and do the trail at the same time.

“They don’t have to do it all at once. There are 12 shops which are taking part, so people can come back and finish it off on a different day.”

The town trails have been running for three years now, with past renditions including the Spalding Nutcracker Trail and a Holbeach Elf Trail.

“Its a nice little thing for people to do over the festive period,” said Coun White.

“They don’t have to pay to do it, and it’ll help people get into the shops.

“It is a little bit of a health by stealth project as well, so we’re trying to promote walking as well to get people out and about.”

Coun White added that at similar events in the past, a number of stores have seen an influx of shoppers who hadn’t been in to see them before - so hopes there will be more of the same this year.

The big Christmas Celebration in Spalding will see visitors entertained by the likes of Frozen characters Olaf and Elsa.
