Spalding theatre group take on masterpiece play
Georgian royals will be hitting the stage when a much-loved theatre company takes on a masterpiece play.
Spalding based Act II will be taking on legendary drama The Madness of George III, which will be performed by their Advanced Skills group.
In this play, when the mighty King George III of England falls ill with a mysterious madness, Parliament and the Royal family themselves are torn apart in the struggle to take his power.
While a new, ruthless Doctor Willis forces the King through horrifying treatments, the Prince of Wales plots to take over the throne as regent in his father’s absence.
A fighting parliament and questionable medical practises of the time make this Alan Bennett masterpiece a must-see.
This thrilling production captures the audience’s love for King George, and harnesses the music of Handel, making The Madness of George III a uniquely beautiful story of real life events put on stage.
Director Charlotte Gernert said: “Alan Bennett’s expert writing allows us to see the turmoil that occurred during King George III’s madness in a highly tense and emotional drama and we hope to engage audiences in George’s story.”
Act II’s performances of The Madness of George III by Alan Bennett take place in the South Holland Centre on Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9 at 7:30pm.
