Full day of festive entertainment planned in Spalding this Saturday - plus the switching on of the Christmas tree lights

By Spalding Reporter

From market stalls and crafts to musical extravaganzas and even Father Christmas himself, there is a whole host of entertainment planned in Spalding this Saturday (December 8), writes Patrick Walsh.

The day of entertainment will be split between Hall Place, in the town centre, and Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens.

At Ayscoughfee, there will be a range of activities for everybody from Christmas story-time with Father Christmas to a special festive trail.

Street performers from Joker Entertainment will be dropping into Hall Place in Spalding Town Centre as part of the Christmas celebration. (5697536)

There will also be craft-making sessions inside and, in the afternoon, a chance to meet Father Christmas and his reindeer.

At Hall place, there will be a range of performances from local groups such as Vibe Choir, Spalding Brass Band, Holbeach Town Band and the Ukulele Orchestra of Spalding - along with street entertainment from 'Circus Elves' and Christmas themed stilt walkers.

The Saturday market stalls will be up and running as normal throughout the event and the Christmas shop window display will be judged on Friday.

"It will be a wonderful chance for residents of all ages from Spalding and the wider South Holland community to come together to get into the festive spirit," said Coun Roger Gambba-Jones, portfolio holder for South Holland District Council.

"There's something for everyone to take part in and enjoy, as well as performances from some great local musical acts."

Father Christmas will switch on the town's Christmas tree lights at 4.30pm.

It all takes place on Saturday from 11am until 3.45pm at Ayscoughfee and from midday until 5pm in Hall Place.
