Jesse Dayton: Mixtape Volume 1 - Album review

By Spalding Reporter

Jesse Dayton’s latest album Mixtape Volume 1 is a must for all country music fans.

If you are unfamiliar with Jesse, well you may have heard him playing guitar on albums by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson as well as being part of the Halloween movie franchise.

This album is filled with ten classic songs that he has covered in his unique country music style.

Yes, this type of album has been done many times before but it still has a few gems.

Top highlights are ‘If You Could Read My Mind’ originally performed by Gordon Lightfoot and ‘She Does It Right’ originally by Dr Feelgood.

Adding the harmonica to ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ gives it a blues feel that really takes you to the ‘Deep South’.

Dayton plays electric guitar and percussion alongside his vocals which help to express his love for these songs. He manages to inject his own style and personality to these classics. It might not be everyone’s taste but I’m sure we’ll see people rocking down the road to this album.

The album is out on August 9.
