Celebrating the Bard at Illumiland festival in Spalding

By Spalding Reporter

Shakespeare-inspired arts festival, ‘Illumiland’, led by youngsters from two schools, will be taking place at Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens next month, writes Patrick Walsh.

Created by a team from Spalding High School and University Academy Holbeach, this festival-in-a-day has been designed to be fun for all of the family.

It includes live music and performances, plus a ‘Shreikspeare’ scare tour, ‘Where’s Willy?’ and a Shakespeare-themed outdoor Silent Disco.

There will also be sculptures, workshops and a cake stall to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity.

This free event is described as ‘a celebration of the works of Shakespeare using light, colour and wonder.’

Assisted by creative producer Simon Hollingworth, local artist and musician George Barnett has led the two schools on their project.

He said: “It’s been amazing to work with all the young people on the project. It’s very inspiring to see this kind of event happening in South Holland where I grew up.”

  • The free event will run from 3pm until around 8pm on Saturday, April 6, at Ayscoughfee.
