Preparations are now well underway for this year’s Armed Forces Parade in Spalding Market Place on Tuesday, June 26, writes Jan Whitbourn.

I have been working hard to ensure this parade will be a memorable one.

This event has been held annually since Spalding Market Traders' Association advised South Holland District Council that they would like to show their appreciation and respect for the work the armed forces do on our collective behalf.

In Spalding we expect there will be a good turnout of veterans from all the services and many recent conflicts, who will march through Market Place and form up in the centre.

We hope they will be joined by a representative detachment of serving men and women from RAF bases in Lincolnshire.

There will be a short service led by the Vicar of Spalding Parish Church, Rev John Bennett with a minute’s silence to give us all the chance to remember the sacrifices made on our behalf over the years and Craig Delaney will sing.

We will all join in with the National Anthem and the parade will then be marched off.
