Spalding Guardian reporter Kat Wakefield reviews the latest Comedy Night at Spalding's Imaginarium/XO.

The first Comedy Hotspot evening earlier this year was an absolute hoot and I was delighted to see Lincolnshire’s own Joe Rowntree compering again.

From the off, Joe and an audience member named Dec formed an interesting love/hate relationship which had us all in stitches.

First to take to the stage was Pete Phillipson, who regaled us with tales of internet dating, relationships, middle age realisations and family.

Pete really tickled the audience which was a great lead in for our next star.

Gerry K was a replacement for the previously advertised Jack Carroll and he did not disappoint.

With some jokes which were very close to the knuckle, many of us didn’t know whether to laugh or cringe at times.

He knew exactly how to play us and kept us on our toes throughout.

Finally, Clinton Baptiste took the stage.

When I heard that Clinton was coming to Spalding, I couldn’t quite believe my luck.

As a huge Phoenix Nights fan and an avid listener of Radio X (on which Clinton often appears with Chris Moyles), I knew the audience was in for a treat.

He mercilessly picked on people in the crowd (including me) using his clairvoyance “skills”, often speaking to celebrities (and even The Queen Mother) from beyond the grave, providing laughter which actually started to cause genuine pain by the end of his set.

All in all, this fantastic evening was a delight and it was brilliant to see a room full of people enjoying comedy.

I really hope there’s another Comedy Hotspot night soon.
