Spalding centre will have a proper celebration

More news, no ads

Visitors to Spalding’s South Holland Centre will be in for a right royal time in June.

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the centre will be putting on a number of special showings showcasing the best of British.

From Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5, visitors will be able to see a unique and inventive feature length documentary about the life of Queen Elizabeth II - Elizabeth: A Portrait in Parts. Directed by the late, great and much celebrated Roger Michell (Notting Hill, The Duke), the film is a nostalgic, uplifting and very modern chronicle of the extraordinary 70-year reign of Her Majesty the Queen, the longest lived, longest reigning British monarch and longest serving female head of state in history.

It has been described as ‘mischievous, witty and affectionate’ by The Daily Mail. On Saturday, June 4 there will be the chance to watch a popular film once again on the big screen.

Helen Mirren stars in the multi-award winning film The Queen, which shows a fascinating portrait of the crisis faced by the royal family following the death of Princess Diana in 1997.

This immaculate drama shows the tension between the Queen and Prime Minister Tony Blair as a nation in shock and mourning looks to the Her Majesty to reflect its pain.

In celebration of the Platinum Jubilee a new Jubilee Anthem has been commissioned by The Monarchists featuring Britain’s favourite soprano.

On Friday, June 17, that very soprano, Lesley Garrett, will be coming to Spalding for a delightful night of song, reminiscences and chat. Accompanied by pianist Anna Tilbrook, Lesley’s behind-the-scenes anecdotes will give audiences a unique insight into her life on the stage.

Before then, this tomorrow (Friday), dance royalty Wayne Sleep will be stepping on the stage for a special look at his life. Filled with plenty of glitz and glam, this audience with event is bound to raise a smile at the very least.
