“Let there be light for The Hole in the Wall Passage this Christmas”.
That’s the message from traders in Spalding’s Crescent shopping area who want talks with councillors and Town Centre Manager Dennis Hannant on providing festive lights for the alleyway between Market Place and Francis Street.
The alleyway, popularly known as The Hole in the Wall Passage due to its location near a pub of the same name, has not had Christmas lighting for the last three years.
Traders plan to take matters into their own hands after attempts by Spalding and District Chamber of Commerce president Phil Scarlett to light up the passage stalled on cost grounds.
A Crescent Traders Association spokesman said: “We would like Christmas lights for the Hole in the Wall Passage and the Town Centre Manager Dennis Hannant is fighting our cause.
“His intention is to raise the issue through the Spalding Town Forum after the pub closed last year.”
Mr Hannant said: “I’ve spoken to South Holland District Council on behalf of the Town Forum to see if it will look at it.
“But I don’t think there will be a decision before the elections in May.”
