NEW life will be breathed into a Spalding building when it is reinstated as a blacksmith’s forge with an associated museum.
Plans submitted by The Friends of Chain Bridge Forge to restore 32 High Street won unanimous backing from South Holland District Council planning committee on Tuesday.
Coun Anthony Casson said: “I think it should be good to put it back into use – it’s good for the area.”
Coun Bryan Alcock said he remembered when the forge was used to manufacture floats at tulip time.
The building was used as a commercial blacksmith’s into the late 1980s and intermittently since. It still houses the original forge, tools and equipment.
The Friends of Chain Bridge Forge aim to create a living museum, preserve our heritage and make it available for school tours.
