Plans to strengthen the claims of Spalding’s Chain Bridge Forge Museum as one of the town’s main visitor attractions have been backed by district councillors.

Spalding Town Forum members heard a presentation by Geoff Taylor from The Friends of Chain Bridge Forge, including ways to help make it “self-sustaining” at its September meeting.

I constantly get people moaning and saying how long it takes to go through the town

Meanwhile, forum members have called for talks with county highways officers about traffic flow in the town centre.

An invitation to the forum’s next meeting in December has been sent to Lincolnshire County Council and ideas to be discussed could include a one-way system for St Thomas’s Road, Spalding.

Coun George Aley, the forum’s vice chairman, said: “Even though I’ve been to highways countless times to see if anything could be done to ease the traffic problems in Spalding, I constantly get people moaning and saying how long it takes to go through the town.”
