Shoppers in Spalding town centre were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of an authentic Italian food and wine market on Sunday.
A selection of bread, cheeses, herbs, olives and meat tempted families from a number of stalls on Sheep Market car park.
Owner Simon Faro (pictured right with stallholders Marco Bisagni, Raimondo Cascella and Massimo Sabia) said: “We travel round England every weekend, selling real, authentic food from Italy which is sold by Italian-born stall holders.
“But it’s the first time we’ve been to Spalding and we’ve had some good feedback from people who found some real, proper Italian food.
“Italy is becoming a bit trendy as a place to travel to and we’ve found that if you give people the real product, they’ll come back for more.”
Spalding town centre manager Dennis Hannant, who helped organise Italia in Piazza, “We were lucky because the stallholders had a market in Peterborough on Friday and Saturday.
“So Simon phoned up and asked about the chances of bringing the market to Spalding on Sunday.
“I asked South Holland District Council if the stallholders could use the car park in Sheep Market and the council said “yes”.
“They are going to come again and I’m also looking to get continental and French markets in Spalding as well so that, in the future, we can make it a regular thing.”
