A trio of Spalding training providers are giving hope to young people out of work with ways to boost their job prospects.
Riverside Training, Nacro (National Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of Offenders) and A G and I (Advice, Guidance and Information) are each running separate Government-funded schemes for 16-19-year-olds.
One of them is the NEET programme, a 12-week scheme run by A G and I for young people not in education, employment or training who learn CV and interview skills, career planning and money management.
There is also a one-year study programme, run by Nacro, which combines maths and English studies with work experience in sports and leisure, business or retail qualifications and a traineeship of at last 16 weeks which includes GCSE study and work placements run by Riverside Training.
Cody Whincup (18), of Whaplode St Catherine, joined the NEET programme last September and has now been offered a nail technician’s job at Not Just Nailz in Spalding.
Gill Marshall of A G and I, which helped Cody with funding, said: “She was referred to us by the Career Guidance Service in Spalding and came on the NEET programme to get skills which could help her get employment.
“Cody wasn’t sure what she wanted to do but she had a passion for nail art, so we arranged for her to get work experience in this field.
“She has now completed a nail art course at Not Just Nailz which then offered Cody a position on a freelance basis which she started this week.”
