Is Holbeach ready to join other towns like Bourne and Market Deeping by having its onw mayor?
Members of Holbeach Parish Council are to consider changing its status to a town council when it meets in two weeks’ time.

The idea has been suggested by parish and district councillor Paul Foyster who claimed that as a town council, Holbeach would be better placed to “move forward” and “take swift advantage” of the current debate about devolving more powers from central government to local authorities.
Coun Foyster said: “Holbeach has grown considerably in recent years and the town is set to have over 2,000 new homes built here in the near future.
“We have been the second town in South Holland for a considerable time and, in addition, central government appears to be set on devolving responsibility on a number of matters to the lower tiers of government.
“Whilst at present there is no clear indication that this will impact on the lowest tier of government which are parish and town councils, it may well happen and therefore it’s important that we are ready.”
Holbeach county councillor Nick Worth said: “As elected members, if this is what the parish council wishes to do, if they think this will be in the best interests of the people of Holbeach and, more importantly, if it is what the people whom they represent really want, then I am in support.”
