Hundreds of people turned out in Holbeach to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday with the lighting of the town’s beacon on Thursday night.

Frank Sauntson, president of Holbeach Royal Air Forces Association and Royal Observer Corps Association, and former parish councillor Terry Harrington lit the beacon in Wignals Gate as part of the ceremony organised by Holbeach Parish Council.

Crowds of people watch the beacon burning brightly in Wignals Gate, Holbeach.

The night, which also featured music from Holbeach Town Band, brought back memories of the last time the beacon was lit as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue helped Mr Sauntson and Mr Harrington, a former Holbeach Parish Council chairman who was awarded the Freedom of the Parish of Holbeach in 2015, with the lighting ceremony.
