Pupils from Ayscoughfee Hall School tried on the long arm of the law with a visit to Nottingham’s Shire Hall.

The historical home of Robin Hood also boasts the Galleries of Justice Museum where youngsters from Spalding learned about crime and punishment in Victorian times as part of their history studies.

Children experienced some of the harsh conditions faced by pupils at reform school and took part in a mock trial, with defendants, witnesses, barristers and jury member roles played by pupils.

The trial took place in an actual Victorian courtroom before the day ended with a tour of the cells inside an old prison.
