Young duo Bailey Baker and Tom Mucklin sign for Spalding United

Manager Gabriel Zakuani is looking forward to seeing the development of young duo Bailey Baker and Tom Mucklin after securing their services for the coming campaign.

The pair have both agreed to commit to the Tulips for the forthcoming Northern Premier League Midlands Division season.

And Zakuani is relishing the opportunity of nurturing the potential in his latest additions to the Spalding squad.

The former Peterborough and Gillingham defender said: “It’s great to keep adding to this talented squad.

“These are two young and exciting new players that I am looking forward to working with and seeing them develop with us throughout the season.”

Bailey – a scholar at Peterborough United – was with Southern League Premier Division side St Ives last season and has been impressed by the Tulips’ plans for the coming campaign.

He said: “I am looking forward to signing with Spalding as a young player.

“After speaking with Gaby, the vision is clear for the season and I am looking forward to playing my part.”

Mucklin has represented the English Universities Sport national team recently while a sports scholar at the University of Bedfordshire.

He also featured for King’s Lynn Town Reserves last season in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North and was delighted to get the chance to join the Tulips.

Mucklin said: “When the opportunity came up to sign for Spalding, I could not turn it down.

“The club is heading in the right direction and hopefully I will play a big part in the quest for promotion this season.

“I am really looking forward to getting started and meeting all the lads and want to say a big thank you to Bruno Porfirio, Gaby and Joe Simpson (King’s Lynn reserve manager) for this opportunity.”

United Counties League Division One side Harrowby United have announced that they will be hosting the Tulips in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, July 27.

Spalding have already lined up matches against Skegness Town on Saturday, July 10, and Boston Town the following weekend.
