WEEKEND ROUND-UP: Town edge to win, football ravaged by rain

Have your say

SPALDING RFC returned to winning ways in Midlands One East with a miserly 3-0 win at Dunstablians on Saturday, while Spalding United, Holbeach United and Bourne Town all saw their games postponed.

Town ended their three-game losing spree by beating the bottom club and are now a healthy 14 points clear of the bottom two.

In football, the Tulips’ fixture at Quorn was rained off in Evo-Stik League First Division South.

It was a similar story in the UCL, with the Tigers’ Premier Division trip to Long Buckby biting the dust and the Wakes’ Division One game at Eynesbury Rovers off.

There was some action in the Peterborough League though, as Pinchbeck United’s Premier Division hopes took a massive hit.

Pete Roberts’ charges lost 1-0 at home to Coates Athletic, with Mark Newton the scorer.

They are now 11 points behind leaders Uppingham Town - who won 5-3 - with four games in hand.

Rivals Moulton Harrox had no such trouble, though. They saw off Whittlesey United 4-2 thanks to goals from Joe Townsend (2), Nigel Steadman and Sam Munton.
