Spalding Golf Club Ladies enjoy a wonderful day
Spalding Ladies were finally able to play in the Ping Day competition which had to be postponed due to the very wet weather last month.
Twenty two pairs entered for this 90 per cent handicap four ball better ball stableford and the winners were Hannah and Millie Thorold with 41 points. Second were Margaret Barkway and Beryl Clay, also with 41, and third Pat and Sally West with 40 points.
On Lady Captain’s Day, Lainy Macleman treated the ladies to a wonderful time. The weather was perfect and the competition was fun, with several holes given new pars. There were three ‘get out of jail free cards’ for each team, allowing Mulligans, kicking out of the rough and dropping out of bunkers.
Every one of the 54 ladies who played received a goodie bag form Lainy, made for her by Chris Vickers, plus sweeties. The starter was Andy Rafferty and the half-way house was manned by Steve Leggett, Keith Holland and Scott Macleman.
The winners with an amazing 50 points were Lesley Williams and Hannah Thorold, 2nd Sally West and Jane Blom 44, 3rd Mo Wallace and Dianne Rafferty 43 and 4th Chris Vickers and Jacquie Walton 42.
Nearest the line on the 15th was won by Pam Smith whose ball sat on the line and there were two nearest the pin prizes. The golf was followed by a light meal which was attended by Madge Tomlinson, a long time member of the ladies section, at the age of 100, and the presentation of prizes.
