Uhlsports UCL Division One: Bourne Town 0 Saffron Walden 2

Bourne Town manager Rob Middleton says he’s looking to bring in new players following this defeat in the season opener.

It seemed to be a satisfactory start to the campaign for the Wakes with a goalless first half and Middleton was “relatively pleased”.

But when the visitors broke down their left from a Bourne corner and made it 1-0, the boss was not happy to see heads drop.

“Before they scored we started to show signs of getting into the game and knocking it round quite nicely,” said Middleton. “But I wasn’t happy to see them score from our own corner.

“And I was disappointed that certain players didn’t want to roll their sleeves up and get back into it. We gave the ball away which led to their second goal.

“We didn’t deserve to get anything from the game after going 1-0 down.”

Middleton did reserve praise for centre-half Daniel Mason who was “absolutely fantastic” but he said there was likely to be some new faces brought in before Saturday’s trip to St Andrew’s.
