Hiatus continues for Spalding United after vague statement by Step 3 and 4 leagues
The pause in fixtures for Step 3 and Step 4 non-league clubs – including the Northern Premier League where Spalding United ply their trade – will continue.
The Tulips and other clubs at that level were left frustrated this evening after a statement about the future of their seasons after coronavirus tiers were brought in actually said very little.
The Pitching In Northern Premier League announced around 4pm that a joint statement would be made at 6pm by them, the Isthmian League and the Southern League regarding the current situation regarding the halted 2020/2021 season.
With hundreds on Twitter waiting for the statement, it came 75 minutes late and added little fresh information, only confirming that a substantial amount of clubs were in agreement with postponing the season while tier structures mean many clubs cannot house spectators and those that can are not allowed to serve refreshments.
It read: "The clubs in membership of the Northern Premier, Southern and Isthmian Leagues (the Trident Leagues) met earlier this week to consider the challenges and issues brought about by the reintroduction of tiers after the raising of the nationwide lockdown with effect from yesterday.
"The clubs were asked to vote on a proposition that the pause in fixtures be continued with a regular review in light of changes to the tiers and/or grants becoming available.
"The total votes cast by the 224 clubs show a substantial number of clubs in agreement with the proposition.
"The matter has been considered today and is subject to comment by The FA. A further statement will be issued in due course."
A review of the decision is expected by December 16.
