Market Deeping defeat Spalding in the Lincolnshire Premier Cricket League
An unbeaten 177-run opening partnership between Josh Smith and Connor Gillett guided Market Deeping to their first win of the Lincolnshire Premier League campaign on Saturday.
Smith struck an unbeaten 96 while Gillett was 63 not out at the close as Spalding were sunk by 10 wickets at Outgang Road.
The visitors - buoyed by last week's convincing win against Skegness - had been put into bat when Deeping won the toss.
But they found runs hard to come by with former Spalding player Will Naylor getting the early wicket of opener Jon Manton for three.
Matt Mills and Hayatullah Niazi then took centre stage as they ripped through Spalding's top order with last week's centurions Mitch Freeman and Chris Dring failing for 19 and nought respectively.
Niazi claimed 3-18 from 10 overs while Mills took 2-37 from eight before Ethan Lawrence led a Spalding fightback.
He top-scored with a fine 57 before being bowled by Smith who finished with 3-14 from his terrific 10-over spell that featured six maidens.
Last man Harry Birch blasted a late cameo of 20 not out as Spalding were bowled out for 173 in the 49th over.
Smith and Gillett then got straight to work in chasing down the required target which they reached inside 26 overs.
Spalding used eight bowlers in a bid to break the Deeping partnership that proved in vain as they fell to their fifth defeat of the season.
The win moved Deeping up into 10th spot, a point behind Spalding who are ninth.
Deeping visit Lindum on Saturday while Spalding are at home to Nettleham.
