After a gruelling day with far from perfect conditions in the Anglian Schools Championships, two students from Spalding Grammar School have qualified to represent Lincolnshire at the National Championships in Gateshead on July 10 and 11.
Year 9 student William Hughes ran a personal best in his 200m heat, running a blistering 22.5 seconds.
In the final he nearly matched this time, running 22.7 seconds. This currently ranks William as the second fastest in the country for his age group.
Twin brother Charles also produced an impressive personal best in the shot put competition as he powered his way to victory in the junior boy category.
Charles’ effort of 12.8m currently puts him seventh in the country for his age group.
Chris Crane, of Spalding Grammar School, said: “This is a massive achievement and we wish both boys all the best for the championship.”
The National Championships, which showcases the best of young talent, will be aired on Sky Sports.
