Manager Brett Whaley feels Spalding United's summer recruitment has seen the Tulips take some big strides in the right direction.

Striker Brad Rolt has become the latest addition to the ranks after joining from National League North side Brackley Town.

The former Peterborough United youngster follows the acquisition of the highly-rated Josh Moreman.

Moreman returns to the Sir Halley Stewart ground after playing a crucial role in helping Peterborough Sports' rise through the non-league ranks.

Former Corby Town trio Elliot Sandy, Jordan O'Brien and James Clifton have also committed to the Tulips along with Danny Draper from Wisbech Town and Yaxley winger Matt Sparrow.

Goalkeeper Dan George's arrival from Cambridge City completes the signings so far ahead of the Northern Premier League Midlands Division campaign.

Whaley said: "We have been busy and we feel that we have made some big strides in the right direction.

"We always said last season that we had to use that period of time to work out where and what we needed.

"We were pretty good defensively so didn't want to change too much at that end of the pitch.

"It was more at the other end because we didn't create the chances or score the goals so we knew the kind of players which we wanted.

"We feel like we have really added in those departments and I am really excited about the players coming in.

"Elliot Sandy gives us experience and that focal point after losing Gregg Smith (to Basford) while the likes of Matt Sparrow and Jordan O'Brien are exciting young players who have the ability to beat people and create things as well as score themselves.

"Josh is obviously a huge signing for us because his quality is unquestionable.

"He's a proven winner and I'm delighted to have him on board. It's a real boost for us as we head into pre-season.

"I am also really pleased to bring Brad to the club as well and to attract a player of this quality shows we are moving in the right direction.

"He will add another attacking goal threat for us and I can't wait and I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"Danny Draper and James Clifton will both help us in the middle of the park so overall we are really happy.

"We didn't want to make wholesale changes but, when players become available of the quality which we have added, you can't not look at them.

"We knew that we needed to add and feel that we have done that.

"I wouldn't say we are completely done yet but, with six or seven additions to the group we had, it means we go into it a lot stronger."

Spalding will also be retaining the services of goalkeeper Michael Duggan, Aaron Hart, Scott Floyd, Gianluca Bucci, Jack Lynch, Nathan Stainfield, Jack Withers, Liam Marshall, Stefan Broccoli, Dylan Edge and Ben Seymour-Shove from last season's squad.

Negotiations are continuing with centre-half Sam Cartwright as Spalding return to pre-season training on Tuesday night.

Their opening friendly is on Tuesday, July 5, when they take on United Counties League Premier Division North neighbours Pinchbeck United at Knight Street (7.30pm).
