Spalding manager eyes return to action
Spalding United are hoping they can finally get back playing again this weekend away at Glossop in the Northern Premier League South East division.
Following the news that fans are to be allowed back into stadiums in a tier three area, manager Gabriel Zakuani is “buzzing” and says that all his players are “chomping at the bit”.
Zakuani said: “We’re in a bit of limbo at the moment as I’m not sure anyone knows what’s going on.
“But, we will prepare the best we can and prepare as if we do have the game on Saturday.
“We’re all ready to go now, and all we want to do is play football but we’ve just got to wait until the time is right.
“The aim for us now is to get playing, get points on the board and to win games.
“We need to move up the league, and my job as a manager is to ensure that we do that, and that all the players are ready for the fight for the rest of the season.
“With fans coming back in now as well we want to make the Sir Halley Stewart ground a fortress, and we want to bring success and joy to the local community.
“I think with the squad I’ve built we can definitely do that, and everyone in the squad will know that if they don’t perform then someone can come in and do as good a job as they can do.
“It’s up to people to perform, and that’s what I wanted since I got here, and now we’ve got options in the squad.
“There’s going to be a lot of games between now and the end of the season, and everyone will be used in some regard.
“Everyone’s been staying fit in the off-season, with their fitness programmes that we’ve given them and they’ve also got some nutrition plans that we’ve got them to follow.
“We’ll be able to see if they have been following these plans, and if they have then it’s time to continue our push toward promotion.
“We want to bring success to the area, and with our squad I think we can do that now.
“It’s a good time to be a Spalding United fan.”
