Spalding and Bourne compete in Lincs Free Press Trophy tonight
Spalding United face Bourne Town in the semi-finals of the Lincs Free Press Trophy at the Sir Halley Stewart Field this evening (Tuesday).
For Spalding manager Lewis Thorogood, it’s another opportunity to see how his squad is coming together and to get more minutes into players.
“It’s a really big week for us,” said Thorogood.
“We’ve got a couple of games to get things right before our FA Cup tie next Tuesday.
“First and foremost, our goal is to win matches. It was a step in the right direction in Saturday’s friendly but we’ve got a lot to be working on.”
Bourne joint-managers Simon Daws and Nathan Arnold will be hoping the match will give their players an opportunity to improve their fitness levels as well as give them a chance to see how their squad is taking shape.
“Our fitness levels are poor but we’re working on it,” said Daws.
“We haven’t got much time but things are moving quickly.”
In the other semi-final, Pinchbeck United take on Holbeach United tomorrow night (Wednesday), also at Sir Halley Stewart Field.
The final and the play-off for third/fourth place takes place on Saturday.
