Sign up for South Lincolnshire's American football team
American football team South Lincolnshire Lightning are planning on staging their first rookie day next month.
The event for the newly-formed team had been organised for the start of the year but, following the third national lockdown, their plans were put on hold.
However, with sport being allowed to commence again from the start of next week, the Bourne-based club are holding their roster day on Sunday, April 4, from 1pm at the town’s rugby club in Milking Nook Drove.
A club statement said: “The announcement of the roadmap out of lockdown means there should be a British American Football Association season approaching.
“With this in mind we are now once again welcoming anyone who wishes to join our organisation.
“Once the lockdown as been lifted, and it is deemed safe to do so, we are hoping to take to the field as a team for the first time and implement non-contact practices to start our journey as an associate team.
“Safety of all involved is of utmost importance as we begin to take shape into a successful and competitive team and work our way towards league status.”
The club are continuing to fill spots on their coaching team and are now recruiting for an assistant head coach, defensive co-ordinator, defensive line coach, running back coach, tight end coach and wide receiver
Greg Simara – who had been appointed as defensive coordinator and line backer coach – has stepped down from his roles due to work commitments.
A club statement said: “We would like to wish Greg the best in the future and hope to see him back with us if and when he can do so.
“With the return to play just around the corner, we are now recruiting to fill the remaining spots on the coaching team and committee.
“If you think you have the experience, passion and drive to fill any of the roles then please get in touch and we can give you more
