Holbeach United announce a dozen signings ahead of the United Counties League Premier Division North season
Experienced defender Stacy Cartwright and exciting attacking talent Fraser Bayliss are among a dozen signings to have been unveiled by Holbeach United.
Cartwright – who has also played for Wisbech Town, Boston Town and Pinchbeck United – returns having previously played for the Tigers.
Bayliss joined the United Counties League Premier Division North side before the campaign was curtailed last season, scoring nine goals in 13 games, from near neighbours Boston Town and boss Phil Barnes was pleased to have the duo on board.
He said: “Fraser was impressed when he came at the end of last season and has done well in the games which he’s played. As a proven goalscorer, it’s great to have him on board.
“Stacy will bring experience to us as well and he got through 70 minutes on Saturday which was good.
“He will not only offer great qualities on the pitch but also his leadership and experience will no doubt help some of the younger lads so it’s good to have him back.”
The Tigers have also signed striker Harry Grigas from Boston Town while full-back Sam Carter - who was previously part of Peterborough United's Academy - has made the move from Thurlow Nunn League side Swaffham Town.
Despite losing a number of players from last season’s squad – with Adam Jackson, Spencer Tinkler, Jonny Lockie, Joe Smith, Jon Fairweather and Josh Ford all moving on – the Tigers have retained the services of goalkeeper Rick Drury and the experienced duo of Nick Jackson and Luke Wilson.
Home-grown prospects Will Barnes, Jordan Keeble and Jordan Elston have also re-signed while Aaron Eyett has returned to the club with Kieran Rose being recruited from Boston League side Swineshead after impressing in pre-season.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to face Northern Premier League side Stamford and boss Barnes is looking for an improved performance from his side after a 1-0 defeat at Bourne Town in their weekend friendly.
He continued: “Pre-season had been going well but the performance at Bourne was a step back to what we had been doing.
"I was a little bit disappointed but that’s what pre-season is about and hopefully we’ve got that sort of performance out of the way now.”
Admission for the match at the Zeeco Stadium is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions. Kick-off is 7.30pm.
