Long Sutton bounce back for a win

Long Sutton 2nd followed up a disappointing defeat on Saturday by recording a tight victory on Sunday.

Sutton bounced back from their South Lincs & Border League East 2 defeat against Baston to beat Moulton Harrox 2nd.

In dark, damp conditions, Sutton posted 95 from 37 overs, Andy Wright top scoring with 21.

The Sutton bowlers knew they had to bowl well and they did, with Ed Munson taking three wickets in his spell, bowling alongside Joe Whittaker.

Josh Baker took over from Munson and Rob Simpson from Whittaker, Baker bowling a really tight seven overs, taking a wicket and conceding just four runs.

Simpson took another two, but the runs ticked along and, with the light fading, skipper Munson turned to Charlie Crisp, who removed three more batsmen before Joe Whittaker took the final wicket.

Moulton finished 13 runs short in the final over, just before the rain fell.

Market Deeping’s Rutland League Division One clash with Peterborough Town was a victim of the weather on Sunday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Deeping had reached 149-7 from 38 overs when the rain came down.

Sam Malton was undefeated on 38, with David Gillett scoring 25, captain Kieran Judd 24, Josh Smith 11 and James Hook 10.

In Division Two, Bourne went down to a two wicket defeat at home to Oakham. After deciding to bat, the home team managed only 126-9 from their 40 overs. Oakham needed just 20 overs to score 127-8 and win the match.

Market Deepings 2nd’s Division Four East game at Wisbech 2nd was also abandoned.Wisbech were 126-7 from 28 overs when the match was called off, Adam Muspratt having taken 4-28 from eight overs. Michael Holden took 2-24 and Sam Jackson 1-34.
