Phillipa Taylor made sure of success for the experienced arm of Nene Valley Harriers by becoming British Masters Half-Marathon Champion in Norfolk.
On a bright and golden day for the Wissey Half-Marathon on Oxborough, Phillipa was third overall behind two younger runners in a time of 1:21.55.
But with the race being classified as both the British Masters Athletics Federation (BMAF) and Eastern Veterans Athletics Club’s (EVAC) 2015 Half-Marathon Championship. Philippa’s time was quick enough to secure a double of BMAF and EVAC title.
Meanwhile, Sean Beard was one of a trio of Harriers using the race as training for autumn marathons and the postman finished in 1:19.05 which was good enough for the over 45s’ BMAF silver and EVAC bronze medals.
Beard followed this up with a five-mile post-race run as he continues to clock up the miles before the Berlin Half-Marathon in just over two weeks time.
Yvonne Scarrott, back at Nene Valley Harriers after a four-year absence, marked her return with a national bronze medal after coming home as third woman in her age category.
The speedy veteran was attracted back by the strength of the club’s ladies road racing team where Yvonne enjoyed her best years of racing in a Nene Valley vest.
Yvonne’s bronze sits alongside the pair of silver medals she picked up in the European Masters Championships in Tuscany earlier this year
But Barry Warne, in training for October’s Chester Marathon, finished well down the field in 111th place which was still good enough for bronze in the EVAC over-50 race.
