Spalding RFC v Mansfield (Saturday, 2pm): LEAGUE form goes out the window this weekend as Town bid to take a sizeable scalp in the NLD Cup.
Spalding have lost their last three Midlands One East fixtures, but were much-improved as they picked up a bonus point at Kettering on Saturday.
They couldn’t have asked for a tougher test in their opening Three Counties clash too, with Mansfield currently in the top five of National League 3 Midlands.
But skipper Harry Sharman led his side to a Memorial Field win over them last season – and was impressed by his side’s resurgent display last time out.
He said: “I sat down with the coaches ahead of the Kettering game and we tried to figure out what had been going wrong.
“The displays had been well below par, but I thought there was a great improvement on Saturday and we did superbly well to get a bonus point.
“Our priority this season is the league, but Mansfield are a team we’ve beaten before and it should be a close game.”
Spalding are still without talented duo Ollie Phillips and Tom Duerden, while Josh McNally is the only fresh absentee.
