Spalding Tennis Club get their competitive campaign underway




Spalding Tennis Club were able to capitalise on home advantage in another busy week of summer league matches.

They recorded four victories from their home matches with their only defeat of the week being away at Deeping.

They hosted Boston in the men's National League and, with the scores tied at 1-1 after the singles rubbers, the team of Mathew Pearl and Ian Argent paired up for the doubles to win the tie for Spalding.

Spalding A hosted Castor in Division One of the Peterborough and District League.

With the scores tied at 3-3 after the first two rounds, Spalding won all three of the final round of rubbers to secure a 6-3 success.

They were represented by Jack Howard, Dominic Layton-Hannam, Ben Brittain, Adam Freeman, Hayden Bingham and Noah Freeman.

Spalding B were 6-3 victors over Stamford in their home Division Two tussle after winning two out of three tiebreaks on the night which proved the difference between the teams.

Spalding were represented by Carl Newell, Mathew Pearl, Ian Argent, Michael Pearl, Martin Perkins and John Farrow.

The C team travelled to Deeping in Division Two where home advantage again proved the key with Spalding suffering a 7-2 reversal.

Steve Knight, Leo Rahman, Lucinda Layton-Hannam, Harry Vickers, Ian Brookes and Joe Brookes represented Spalding.

The D team finished the week's competitive matches with a 5-4 home success over Railway.

Spalding were represented by Hannah Willis, James Stamp, Martin Brittain, Millie Brittain, John Lees and Sarah McCormack.
