Spalding Town Cricket Club win the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division title
Spalding Town Cricket Club have been crowned South Lincs and Border League Premier Division champions.
They defeated Grantham 2nds on Saturday by five wickets in their final match of the season to leapfrog long-time leaders Skegness.
The victory rounded off a sensational winning streak for Chris Dring's side who took the league title by finishing 14 points clear at the top.
Town had actually lost their opening three games of the league campaign and also saw one game cancelled before embarking a superb 16-match winning streak.
It culminated on Saturday with a tidy victory over Grantham who had elected to bat first after winning the toss.
However, they found runs hard to come by as the Spalding bowlers held the upper hand to dismiss their visitors for 124.
Will Naylor was the pick of the home attack with 4-27 from 11.3 overs while Harry De Camps claimed 3-31 off 12.
Brandon Andrews chipped in with 2-28 off nine while Nilantha Attapattu bowled five maidens in his 1-22 from 12.
Opener Jon Manton then led the title charge with a half-century as Spalding secured their sucess after 30 overs.
Jay White also added 26 with Atapattu (6no) and Ben Smith (10no) steering Spalding to glory and their first Premier Division title triumph since 2018.
