South Lincs Competitive Club swimmers following in the footsteps of Olympic champions Adam Peaty and Rebecca Addlington

Six South Lincs Competitive Club swimmers have received selections to two national programmes commencing this year.

Emma Croker and Rico Bringeman have achieved selections to the Diploma in Sporting Excellence, run by Swim England in conjunction with Loughborough College.

This is a two-year programme and is tailored to individual athletes and their disciplines. It offers them the opportunity to gain key knowledge and the necessary skills in order to become high performance athletes.

The programme will cover topics such as lifestyle, nutrition, mental health, psychology behaviour and safety as key components within the syllabus, as well as more practical elements such as career, finance, injuries, anti-doping and media training.

Emma and Rico will be following the Diploma in Sporting Excellence alongside their A-Level studies over the next two years.

Each swimmer will be assigned an assessor to support them throughout the programme and will also visit the South Lincs programme in order to see both swimmers in their training environment.

Selection to the programme was based upon completion of a successful application and also on the swimmers' national rankings.

Numerous successful British swimmers have undertaken the course in the past including Olympic champions Adam Peaty and Rebecca Addlington.

The Diploma also carries UCAS points that can be used by the swimmers to obtain university places in 2023.

Four South Lincs swimmers have also received selections to the Swim England National Development Programme for the 2021-22 season.

Alfie Bisby, Alex Sadler, Oliver Sorrell and Oscar Goldsmith will all be participating in the first phase of the programme which will be run online as a series of workshops.

The swimmers will gain valuable knowledge on lifestyle and behaviour as well as nutrition and psychology in this opening phase.

A second phase of the programme will include practical pool based work aimed at improving core skills in the water to aid their swimming performance.

These practical sessions will be held later in 2022 and it is hoped that all four of the boys selected will have the opportunity to participate in these sessions.

Head coach Keith Haynes said: I am delighted to have had six swimmers selected for these national programmes.

"This is the first time we have had swimmers selected to the Diploma In Sporting Excellence and I am very keen to support both Emma and Rico in their studies for the qualification.

"The boys have done extremely well to be selected to the National Development programme.

"It is a great opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills and puts them on a pathway to future success in the sport."

With the start of the new season, a number of competitions are lined up for the South Lincs swimmers over the coming months and the club look forward to having the chance to share the successes of the swimmers between now and Christmas.
