SWIMMING: Frank dominates with 11 golds

South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club held its 35th annual Tulip Open Meet at Castle Pool in Spalding over the first weekend of May.

The event was sponsored by Superflora, who provided the club with floral bouquets to present to the top swimmers in each age group along with trophies.

The club’s most successful swimmer was Frank Lamb, who dominated the boys 9 years age group, to claim 11 gold medals from 13 swims over the course of the weekend. Frank’s highlight was a big drop in his 200m backstroke event, in which he lowered his best mark by more than eight seconds to post a time of 2.58.93.

Anish Suwarneraj posted new PBs in all of his six races, claiming silver in both the 50m backstroke and the 200m backstroke with times of 42.21 seconds and 3.15.52 respectively.

In the girls 10 years age group Sophie Wilson swam to nine new PBs and claimed eight medals in the process, picking up a silver in the 50m freestyle in 35.86 and then topping that to take gold in the 200m Individual Medley (3.15.82).

Luke Sorrell collected 12 medals, including six golds, in the boys’ 10 years age group. He set PBs in the 200m Individual Medley, to post a time of 3.27.82, in the 100 butterfly (1.48.93) and 3.50.99 in the 200m breaststroke.

Erin Siggee dominated the girls’ 10 years age group, sweeping to gold in the 200m breaststroke with 3.36.19, to set a new PB.

Erin also claimed silver medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events, setting new PBs of 46.76 and 1.42.79 respectively.

Lucie Lund collected a hat trick of medals in the girls 11 years age group, including gold in the 100 backstroke, bronze in the 50 butterflyly (35.80) and silver in the 50 backstroke (37.19), setting PB in each event.

Aidan Evans swam to nine medals during the event, and other swimmers who enjoyed good weekends included Nathan Hyden in the boys’ 10 years age group, Lilli Bowman in the girls 12 years age group, Dziugas Baziliauskas in the boys’ 13 years age group and William Vere, winner of the club’s award for most improved swimmer of 2018.

Eight of the club’s swimmers won top boy or top girl in their age groups: Frank Lamb - top boy in the 9 years age group; Luke Sorrell - top boy in the 10 years age group; Oliver Sorrell - top boy in the 11 years age group; Beatrice Finch - top girl in the 12 years age group; Nitesh Anbazhagan - top boy in the 12 years age group; Dusty Saines - top girl in the 14 years age group; brother and sister Edward and Esther Skells won top boy and girl in the 15 years and over age group.
