Spalding Rugby Club return to action with a veterans match against Deepings
Spalding Veterans were the first side from the club to return to competitive action when they hosted their Deepings counterparts on Saturday.
Matches have been permitted to resume from the start of this month with some variations to the laws which includes no scrums or mauls.
Players were somewhat rusty on Saturday having not played for at least 14 months but the enthusiasm was there.
The game was end-to-end with some missed tackles and a few passes going astray and by half-time the visitors were leading 17-10.
With the very firm ground underfoot, players were willing to be substituted to give their bodies a rest as Deepings extended their advantage after the break to secure a 39-24 success despite the efforts of Gav Sharman who scored a hat-trick for Spalding.
