Out in front from the start to finish

The final races of both the Sunday and Autumn Points series were held at Welland Yacht Club.

Three boats took to the start of race number seven in the Sunday Points series.

Due to the amount of rainfall, the river had a considerable flow to it.

With this in mind, the start line was moved up river to allow for clearer wind at the start to counter the flow.

Gerri van Haren (Phantom) took the early lead from Gail and Katie Follington, both in Laser Radials.

Although Katie closed the gap on the final run, the top three remained after handicaps were applied.

Deciding to run the second race of the day – number six in the Autumn Points series – straight after the first, the course was lengthened.

Again van Haren made the most of the start, but this time Gail became temporarily stuck on the bank, allowing Katie to take second until the final run back.

The result was repeated but, with van Haren having to call it a day after lunch, the final line-up was joined by Neal Tack in a RS Feva.

During the build-up to the start, Tack ventured too far down river and struggled to make it back to the start against the flow.

This allowed Gail to take the early lead from Katie, with Tack trying to get back within handicap distance. The top three stayed the same.

Although not present on the final day, overall victory in both series went to Andy Prior.
