Overall winner Lucy Burton

Lucy Burton's clean sweep earned overall victory in the Novice Regatta at Welland Yacht Club.

Sunday's event was open to all members who haven’t won a standard handicap regatta or series.

Race one got under way with only a light breeze and two boats taking part.

Burton took the lead from Katie Follington and held onto the win with personal handicaps being applied at the en.

Two more competitors joined in for the second race as Burton took the honours from Paul Wilson, Follington in third place and Shelley Woolridge retiring.

For the final race, the fleet was joined by Richard Stedman - fresh from having completed his RYA Level One dinghy course and keen to put what he had learnt into practice.

Once handicaps were applied, Burton took the win from Wilson with Stedman third.

This weekend will see the club take part in the Lakeside 24-hour race at Ferry Meadows, Peterborough, hoping to repeat last year's overall win.
