Welland Yacht Club trophies for Katie
Katie Follington took overall victory in the Carl Bilbie pursuit regatta at Welland Yacht Club with two wins and a second place to also collect the Cadet Trophy.
The personal handicap is applied at the start of the race to give staggered times then the result is the positions on the water at the end of 60 minutes.
First away were Rosie, Freya and Samuel Willerton then at one minute 20 seconds Follington also in a Topper.
She was followed by Neal Tack and crew Rebecca Slator in their Graduate at 9:30, Mark Holland (Laser Radial - 12:30), Alan Cox (Laser Radial - 13:50), Paul Burton (Super Nova - 16:00) and Andy Prior (Laser - 16:50).
Despite having their sails reduced, the two youngest participants Freya and Samuel found the windy conditions too much and retired after several capsizes.
By this time, Follington had taken the lead followed by Tack-Slator then Holland, Cox, Burton and Prior.
As the race progressed, Follington maintained her lead while the rest started to catch each other with Holland moving to second and Prior to sixth.
With about 15 minutes to remain the order was Follington, Holland, Cox, Prior, Burton, Tack-Slator and Rosie Willerton - staying that way to the finish.
Race two saw the Willertons withdrew and Geri van Haren join in the fastest boat with a start time of 18:30.
By half-time Holland and Cox had got past Tack-Slator and Prior was not far behind them.
With 10 minutes to go, Prior made his way past Holland and started closing in on the lead boat of Follington.
With a minute to go they were level with the finishing order of Prior, Follington, Holland, Cox, Tack-Slator, Burton and van Haren.
In race three, the only change to the fleet was that Neal Tack had a change of crew with Gail Follington replacing Slator.
The wind had eased off which played into the hands of the larger sailed boats of Prior, Burton and van Haren.
As the pursuit began, Holland and Cox moved up to second and third behind Katie Follington before Cox was caught by a gust and took a capsize, dropping him back through the fleet.
Prior had made ground on Burton and the pair of them soon found themselves in second and third respectively. Both closed in on Follington as the final minutes ticked by.
The finishing order was Follington, Prior, Burton, Holland, van Haren, Cox and Tack-Follington.
