RUGBY UNION: Spalding kick off a new era

Spalding are set for the first competitive senior match at their new ground on Saturday.

They face Stamford in a county cup tie at Drain Bank North (3pm kick-off).

Junior games were played there last season but this is the first team's debut - although league matches will be back at the Memorial Field when the Midlands Three East (South) season starts next month.

Captain Dan Adams and first-team player-coach Harry Sharman are excited by the club's prospects.

They have decisions to make ahead of Saturday's game with a strong squad available. Eighteen senior players turned up for training on Tuesday night.

Competition for places was also highlighted in the pre-season performances against Deepings, Boston and Fakenham.
