RUGBY UNION: Spalding aim for bonus at home

Free-scoring Spalding will chase another home win on Saturday to extend their 100 per cent record at the Memorial Field.

They have hit a half-century of points three times this season by beating Bakewell Mannerians, Buxton and Sleaford.

Last weekend’s impressive display in the NLD Shield first round produced nine tries as Spalding completely shut out Sleaford who did not mange any points.

The mid-table side are just one point behind Saturday’s visitors Mansfield in the Midlands Division Three East (North) table.

Spalding captain Dan Adams said: “After a disappointing defeat against Kesteven, we knew we had to get back to winning ways and put in a performance we all know we can.

“The boys came out with an intensity and determination that needs to carry on throughout the season.

“We shut out Sleaford from the first whistle and dominated the game, playing our style of rugby until the final whistle.

“This really was a game where we wanted to stamp out the memory of last week’s performance.

“There were some fantastic performances from some of the younger players Conall Mason, Harry Cole and Ben Shields.

“Mansfield at home is another chance for Spalding and the players to put a marker down and target a bonus point win.

“We are hungry for another win and we are looking to move up that league table.”
