RUGBY: Town’s feeble form ‘a disgrace’

Have your say

Spalding RFC v Matlock (Saturday, 3pm): HARRY Sharman has warned his Town team-mates that last weekend’s record league loss was “totally unacceptable”.

Spalding were savaged 99-7 at Bedford Athletic as they slumped to a fourth Midlands One East on the trot.

They’re bidding to get up and running against fellow strugglers Matlock at the Memorial Field on Saturday, but injured skipper Sharman admits a few home truths have been told.

He said: “Saturday was an embarrassment from start to finish. It was an absolute disgrace.

“Fans travelled a long way to watch that – and I can only apologise to them.

“This group of players has proved it belongs at this level, but we’ve not been good enough so far this season. We’ve talked it over and hopefully lessons will be learned.”

Experience duo Kevin Childs and Mark Haighton could return on Saturday, but Sharman himself remains sidelined.
