RUGBY: Timely boost for winless Town

Spalding RFC v Market Rasen & Louth RFC (Saturday, 3pm): STRUGGLING Town hope to welcome back three key men as they bid to break their Midlands One East duck.

Prop Peter Waudby and brothers Tom and Ed Duerden could all return to the starting line-up against old rivals Rasen and Louth at the Memorial Field – but skipper Harry Sharman will not feature.

The talismanic figure is facing a lengthy spell on the sideline after suffering ankle ligament damage in the NLD victory over Lincoln two weeks ago, meaning Ben Williamson has stepped in as captain.

A youthful Town have lost their opening two league matches pretty emphatically, but Sharman feels the returning trio, along with the presence of fit again Ben Williams will help turn the tide.

He said: “We’ve blooded a lot of young lads, so adding experience to the side will be key. Rasen is always a tasty clash and they did the double over us last year.

“It’ll be a tough game and we’ll need our experienced heads to lead by example.”
