RUGBY: Key Kettering clash is a must-win for Town

Have your say

Spalding RFC v Kettering (Saturday, 3pm): Town welcome Kettering to the Memorial Field in the first of two back-to-back home clashes that could shape their Midlands One East future.

Marooned at the bottom after eight winless outings, Spalding were tonked 52-0 in their latest outing at Paviors.

But with relegation rivals Kettering and then Towcestrians next up, skipper Harry Sharman is hoping his side will finally break their duck.

He said: “This league is very, very tough. It’s funny to think of Kettering as one of the ‘easier’ games – because it really isn’t.

“We’ve had a poor season so far and we simply have to start turning things around if we want to stay in this league.

“The performances up until now haven’t been good enough, but I believe this team has the ability to stay up.

“It’ll be no easy task, but we really need two wins.”

Spalding’s chances of gaining a first league win of the season are boosted by the return of three important figures. The influential Ryan Chappell, impressive youngster Harry Harrison and key man Ed Duerden should all be back in the squad.
