RUGBY: Away shocker as Town are decimated

Have your say

OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS 85 SPALDING RFC 0: Town’s miserable season continued on Saturday with another morale-sapping drubbing.

After six fruitless matches so far in Midlands One East, there seems to be no answer for rock bottom Spalding – and it’s difficult to see where their next point is coming from.

The teams were all square after 15 minutes, but from then on Northamptonians were unstoppable, boasting a set of three-quarters that will give any team in the league a run for their money.

It was 45-0 at half time, with a yellow card for Tom Duerden not helping Town’s plight. Two more quick tries followed after the break, but Spalding did at least enjoy a decent period of pressure soon after.

However, their season was perhaps summed up in one play. Pressing hard in the Northamptonians 22 metre area, a Town pass was intercepted by a home winger – who ran the length of the pitch to score.

Town: Ben Williams (captain), Pete Waudby, Ollie Lake, Sam Cooke, Mark Haighton, Andy Coates, Tom Duerden, Ed Duerden, Harry Brown, Rob Lucas, Jim Williams, George Brown, Adam McHugh, Ryan Chappell, Dan Adams, Alex Ioannou, Ash Anker, and Harry Winch.

Saturday: Town v Peterborough Lions.
